Dressing well adds volumes to your overall persona. There’s a saying that goes on like this, “The boor covers himself, the rich man or the fool adorns himself, and the elegant man gets dressed.” Now, whether you choose to cover, adorn or dress, we’ll suggest accessorizing your look fine.
Here’s a list of seven items you NEED in your closet.
Casual and/or Formal Watch
Preferably, both. This would also depend on what your lifestyle’s like. If you’re more of an “I made an impromptu hiking trip” kind of a guy, a nifty leather or silicone watch band is the way to go. However, if most of your life revolves around attending meetings and lunches in the corporate world, you need to have a smart, formal watch handy. A watch not only tells you time but is an awesome accessory for you to dress up and dress down with.
When buying a new watch for yourself, here’s something to consider. The general rule of thumb is, if the circumference of your wrist is 6 to 7 inches, you should go with a watch that has a case diameter of 38-42 mm wide. If your wrist is larger than 7 inches, you can go with 44-46 mm wide cases.
Backpack and Briefcase
Again, backpacks for casual, outdoorsy hullabaloos and plans are an indispensable item to carry all your stuff in, on your back. A briefcase, although old-school, really adds that professional-looking oomph to your overall guise. Plus, a briefcase to a man is what a handbag is to a woman. Mind you, it’s not just folders that you can carry inside. Nowadays, laptop cases and gadget organizers are shaped like classic briefcases to give you that timeless, Don Draper from Mad Men-like vibe. You’ll look so stoic. So hireable. People will think, “This guy’s got it!” Have my word for it, lads!
Out of the Ordinary Socks
Yeah. You read that right. Move over neutral beiges and greys. When it comes to socks, it’s all about having fun. Try adding printed and colorful ones in your wardrobe for the days when you want to liven things up a bit. Colors like yellow, chartreuse, fiery red, and cobalt blue have a lot of personality in them. And they sure would add a feisty touch to your whole look as well. With embroidered, printed, and fuzzy socks to choose from these days, you’ll surely find the ones that’ll float your boat.
Wallet
When it comes to the wallet, remember a classy, slim one is going to take you a long way. Bulky and big ones aren’t just impractical, they don’t even fit into any pockets as well. A thin, simple one is not just going to keep your cash and cards, it would add an elegant zing to your pocket as well (given that a part of your wallet peeps out from your pocket too). With so many options to choose from and get customized these days, you’d certainly find the one that tickles your pickle.
Sunglasses
There’s no such thing as too many pairs of sunglasses. In fact, the more, the merrier. Or as Victoria Beckham puts it, “Sunglasses always hide a multitude of sins.” We really can’t deny any of that, can we? A good pair of sunglasses can bring your look from a zero to an 80 in a jiffy. Oh, and it protects your eyes from the sun’s UVA and UVB rays. Just be mindful of the frames you choose for your face shape. This guide may help you out a bit.
Cashmere Scarf
Now, this can take you a long way. It adds just the right amount of extra something-something especially when you’re wearing a really cool blazer or even a simple sweater. A cashmere scarf not only looks sumptuous if tied right, but it also adds a distinct dynamism to your overall outfit.
Tie & Matching Pocket Square
Have an unexpected formal dinner to attend after work? Don’t have time to dress again? A tie with a matching pocket square is all you need for impromptu evening plans. Chances are that you would already be wearing a suit after a typical workday. Therefore, all that you would require would be a T & PS and you’d be good to go. These accessories add just the right punch of verve to your look and, with so many options of fabric, cuts, and styles to choose from, you’ll surely find the one that tickles your fancy.
