Astros End Home Losing Streak with Dramatic Win Over Yankees

Houston – The Astros finally broke their eight-game home losing streak to the New York Yankees on Wednesday, clawing back late to secure a thrilling victory and extend their lead in the American League West to four games over the Seattle Mariners.

Yordan Alvarez led the charge, going 4-for-5, while Jeremy Pena added two hits in four at-bats and launched his 15th home run of the season. The game turned in the bottom of the eighth inning, when the Astros scored four runs off Yankees reliever Devin Williams. Williams issued a bases-loaded walk to Taylor Trammell and was ejected by umpire Brian Walsh as he left the mound. Yankees manager Aaron Boone was also ejected in the heated moment.

Pena’s single off Camilo Doval extended Houston’s lead to 6-4, and a series of defensive mistakes by the Yankees—including a balk and a wild pitch—helped push two more runners across the plate.

New York wasn’t done, though. Right fielder Cody Bellinger blasted a three-run homer off Astros closer Bryan Abreu in the top of the ninth, but Abreu bounced back to strike out Jazz Chisholm Jr. and seal the win.

Earlier, Yankees rookie Will Warren had kept Houston largely in check, facing nearly every batter over the minimum and allowing just two hits through four innings. But Ramon Urias’ sacrifice fly in the fifth brought the Astros within 3-1, and Pena’s solo homer in the sixth chased Warren from the mound. Alvarez kept the comeback alive, doubling and later delivering a game-tying RBI single.

The Astros’ pitching also had its ups and downs. Jason Alexander, who threw six shutout innings against the Yankees last month, struggled in the rematch. Giancarlo Stanton and Austin Wells each homered, giving New York an early 3-0 lead before Houston mounted its late rally.

With the win, Houston not only snapped its home skid against New York but also strengthened its hold atop the AL West, showing resilience and clutch hitting when it mattered most.
