Flood Alert: Water Level Rises in Chenab River

Sialkot, Pakistan – The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) has reported a big rise in water flow at Head Marala in the Chenab River, reaching 176,000 cusecs. Just two days ago, the flow was 70,000 cusecs.

The FFD has warned that this rise in water could flood hundreds of acres of land in Sialkot, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Chiniot, and Jhang.

A high flood alert is already in place at Marala Headworks, with predictions of medium to high flooding at Khanki and Qadirabad in the next 24 hours.

The FFD also mentioned that a new monsoon weather system is expected to arrive by August 5, which may further raise water levels in the Chenab, Indus, and other major rivers.

Authorities advise people in low-lying areas to stay alert and take safety precautions.
