Fiery Red
Wonder why most brides in South Asia adorn themselves in red bridal attire on their wedding day? Well, that’s because most women here have warm/olive undertones that look extra good when paired with them. Red, relative to other colours, leads men to view women as more attractive and more physically desirable. Researchers at the University of Illinois found that red is also associated with strength and power.
Dirty Olive Green
This green hue really accentuates your gorgeous brown skin and makes you look like a diva. Paired with the right accessories and makeup, it can really bring out your features and warm olive undertones in your skin. When paired with gold jewellery, this colour adds that wow factor too. Chartreuse
A hybrid of lime-green and bright yellow, this colour makes every South Asian glow like no other. We have witness celebrities sporting this at major events as wedding guests. Even globally renowned, ethnic designers like Sabyasachi introduced bridal attires in this vibrant, feisty colour. Alia Bhatt in India and Mawra Hocane in Pakistan have played a huge role in making this shade of green look not-so-intimidating. The trick is to keep everything else like your jewellery and makeup understated and low-key to make it seem more wearable and appealing.
Sky Blue
Brown skin and sky blue complement one another like ketchup do to fries. Whether this shade is used in makeup, nail colour, jewellery or in outfits, it never looks nasty on South Asian skin. The brilliance and vivacity of this gorgeous shade are pronounced even more when incorporated in desi outfits. Marigold
A warmer, deeper and with a much orangey hue of yellow, anyone? Yes, please! What a gorgeous colour this is! If you have seen marigold flowers in real, there is a reason why bridal jewellery and mehndi bridal décor is made out of them. They make the “bridal glow” evident on their faces! Weddings, red carpets, Bollywood movies, we see versions of marigold everywhere. So however you choose to incorporate it into your look, you’d seem like a bright ray of sunshine. Or a sunflower, who knows?
Ultraviolet
Let’s throw some facts here. On the colour wheel, brown is directly opposite to purple. This means that if there’s a colour that most certainly complements brown skin, it is the good, old purple.
