Pakistan Focuses on Economy in Foreign Policy, Says Deputy PM Dar

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said that one of the main goals of Pakistan’s foreign policy is to focus more on the economy. This means working on better trade, bringing in foreign investment, increasing remittances, using new technologies, and forming partnerships for development. He shared these thoughts while speaking at the 52nd anniversary of the Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad.

Response to India and the Pahalgam Incident

Dar talked about India’s accusations after the Pahalgam attack and its actions in May 2025. He said Pakistan responded strongly and quickly using a strategy called “quid pro quo plus,” which is now Pakistan’s new way of dealing with any future Indian aggression. He warned India that Pakistan cannot be bullied or threatened, and that India needs to change its aggressive behavior to maintain peace in South Asia.

Indus Waters Treaty

Dar also said that Pakistan will continue to protect its rights under the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), an agreement about sharing water between the two countries. He criticized India for trying to use water as a political weapon and said India’s decision to suspend the treaty has no legal standing.

Kashmir Issue

He added that peace in South Asia depends on solving the Kashmir conflict. This should be done according to UN Security Council resolutions and by listening to the wishes of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Middle East Situation

Talking about recent events in the Middle East, Dar said Pakistan strongly condemns Israel’s attack on Iran and the U.S. attack on Iran’s nuclear sites. He called these actions illegal and dangerous, and said they go against international law. He praised Iran for trying to solve nuclear issues through talks and peaceful means.

Support for Palestinians

Dar said Israel’s war in Gaza is a “genocide” and a shame for the world. He asked the international community to stop Israel’s violence and push it toward peace. He repeated Pakistan’s full support for the Palestinian people and called for a separate Palestinian state with borders from before 1967 and Jerusalem (Al-Quds Al-Sharif) as its capital.
