Dodgers Dominate Padres 7-0 to Reclaim NL West Lead
Los Angeles – The LA Dodgers delivered a commanding performance, blanking the San Diego Padres 7-0 and reclaiming sole possession of first place in the NL West.
San Diego fell a game behind after a 9-6 loss to the Seattle Mariners over the weekend.
Dodgers starter Emmet Sheehan (5-2) turned in the longest outing of his career, allowing just two hits — a double to former Dodger Gavin Lux in the second inning and a single to Austin Hays in the seventh — while walking only one batter.
Offensively, Michael Pages provided the spark for Los Angeles. He hit a solo home run into the Dodgers’ bullpen in the third inning off Hunter Greene (5-4) and added another in the fifth following a Michael Conforto double, putting the Dodgers ahead 3-0.
The game opened up in the sixth inning when Freddie Freeman doubled and Will Smith drew a walk. Pages reached on a fielding error by Elly De La Cruz, and Hays compounded the mistake with a wild throw, allowing both Freeman and Smith to score and extend the lead to 5-0.
Mookie Betts added a solo homer in the seventh, and Pages’ sacrifice fly later brought in the final run, sealing the 7-0 victory.
Defensively, the Dodgers shone with spectacular plays in the outfield. Conforto robbed Spencer Steer of a potential home run at the top of the wall, while Teoscar Hernández made multiple highlight-reel catches, including a one-handed grab off Jose Trevino and a dramatic chase into the scoreboard to snare Matt McLain’s fly ball. Their efforts prevented four potential extra-base hits, keeping San Diego off the scoreboard.
With this win, the Dodgers not only assert their dominance in the division but also showcase a combination of strong pitching, timely hitting, and stellar defense.
