Severe monsoon rains have triggered devastating floods across northern Pakistan, leaving at least 10 to 12 people missing in Gilgit-Baltistan, according to officials.
A spokesperson confirmed ongoing search and rescue operations in the region, which has seen widespread destruction. Over 500 houses have been destroyed, along with more than 12 kilometers of road infrastructure. The floods also washed away 27 bridges and 22 vehicles, severely disrupting connectivity in remote areas.
Shops, livestock shelters, and thousands of feet of timber have also been swept away by the fast-moving waters. District Diamer has suffered the most extensive human and material losses so far.
Emergency teams, led by the Pakistan Army, have rescued over 300 stranded tourists and passengers from the affected zones.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported 13 additional fatalities from rain-related incidents in the past 24 hours. Seven deaths were reported in Punjab, followed by three in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two in Islamabad, and one in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The NDMA also noted that 13 people were injured nationwide during this period, issuing fresh warnings about continued heavy rainfall. Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and avoid low-lying or flood-prone areas as the monsoon intensifies.
