Islamabad Muharram Plan: Traffic & Power Arrangements

A new plan has been made to keep people safe and to make sure traffic moves smoothly in Islamabad during the Muharram procession.

An official told the news agency APP that the main procession will start from Jamia Al-Murtaza in G-9/4 and will pass through Rohtas Road, Tufail Niazi Road, Shan-ul-Haq Road in G-9/1, and the Police Quarters Service Road. It will end at House No. 14 near Jamia Al-Sadiq in G-9/2.

Some roads will be closed to regular traffic during the procession. These include:

Rohtas Road (Police Quarter Turn)

Tufail Niazi Road (G-10 side)

Khurram Road

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Captain (R) Syed Zeeshan Haider advised people to use different roads instead, such as:

Neelum Road

9th Avenue

Jinnah Avenue

Srinagar Highway

Margalla Road

7th Avenue Loop

He asked everyone not to park their cars illegally near the procession route so that traffic can move easily. People should use only the designated parking areas and follow the instructions of the traffic police, who will be there to help and guide.

No Power Cuts on 9th & 10th Muharram
The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) said there will be no power outages on the 9th and 10th of Muharram (2025).

A PESCO spokesperson said electricity will stay on at Imam Bargahs during these important days. To make sure of this:

94 power lines (feeders) have been selected to give nonstop electricity.

A special control room has been set up at PESCO’s main office with senior staff to watch over the power supply.

Also, any loose or hanging wires along the procession routes have been removed for safety.
