Karachi Flights Disrupted as Heavy Rains Lash City
KARACHI – Flight operations at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport faced major disruptions on Tuesday morning as heavy downpours continued to batter the city.
According to airport officials, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK-300 from Karachi to Islamabad took off 30 minutes late, while Fly Jinnah’s flight 670 for the same route departed an hour behind schedule at 8:00 am. AirSial’s 7:00 am Karachi–Islamabad flight had still not departed by mid-morning.
PIA’s Karachi to Lahore flight PK-302 also faced a delay, leaving at 8:30 am instead of its scheduled time. Meanwhile, three international arrivals at Karachi airport were also delayed due to adverse weather conditions.
Authorities said they are monitoring the situation closely as rain continues to disrupt normal flight schedules.
Earlier in the day, light showers that began overnight turned into heavy rainfall across Karachi, bringing much-needed relief from the sweltering humidity. Areas hit hardest include Tariq Road, Azizabad, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Boat Basin, Liaquatabad, Hassan Square, Clifton, Defence, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Malir, Landhi, Korangi, and North Nazimabad, where thunderstorms were also reported.
Several other parts of the city, including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Federal B Area, Malir Cantt, Surjani Town, and Taiser Town, also experienced intense rainfall.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more heavy rain for the northern regions of the country, including Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, and Galiyat over the next 24 hours. It also warned of potential urban flooding in low-lying areas of Karachi, Quetta, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, and parts of Sindh due to the ongoing monsoon spell.
