Pakistan Forms Peace Committee Against Extremism

Government Forms National Committee to Promote Peace and Counter Extremism

Islamabad – The government has announced the formation of the National Message of Peace Committee, a sub-committee under the National Committee for Narrative Formation, aimed at promoting national unity and countering extremism. The committee’s primary objective is to draft a unified national stance against terrorism, sectarianism, and hate speech.

The committee will be chaired by the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting and will include prominent scholars from different schools of thought, representatives of religious minorities, senior officials from relevant ministries, and respected clerics.

Notable members include Senator Hafiz Abdul Karim, Mufti Abdul Rahim, Allama Arif Hussain Wahidi, Pir Naqeeb-ur-Rehman, Allama Muhammad Hussain Akbar, and Dr. Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naeemi. Other religious leaders such as Maulana Tahir Mahmood Ashraf, Maulana Tayyab Panjpiri, and Allama Ziaullah Shah Bukhari are also part of the committee.

To ensure minority representation, Bishop Azad Marshall, Rajesh Kumar Hardasani, and Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora have been included as members. The committee aims to foster peace, tolerance, and harmony by promoting a collective national narrative against divisive ideologies.

Special Legal Aid Committee for Families of Missing Persons

In a related move, the federal government has also set up a Special Committee to provide legal assistance to families of missing persons. This committee will help address issues faced by families whose cases are being investigated by the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances, particularly matters related to family law.

Families facing difficulties, especially with NADRA in obtaining CNICs or Form-B, can submit their grievances in writing via email at coioed@gmail.com
or WhatsApp at 0321-5101070. Hard copies of submissions are also accepted.

Additionally, families can meet Ms. Saadia Rashid, Assistant Registrar of the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances, at the Directorate General Civil Defence Building, Mauve Area, Sector G-9/1, Islamabad, on any working day to submit and discuss their concerns.
