Tensions Erupt Within PTI Over Senate Nominations: Barrister Saif Resists Pressure from CM Gandapur, Aleema Khan
ISLAMABAD – A rift has emerged within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Information Advisor, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, resisted pressure from Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Aleema Khanum over Senate nominations, sources revealed.
According to party insiders, Barrister Saif is determined to implement the PTI founder’s directives “in letter and spirit” following a recent meeting with him at Adiala Jail. The PTI founder reportedly instructed Barrister Saif to publicly announce six candidates for the upcoming Senate elections.
However, sources claim that CM Gandapur and Aleema Khanum attempted to block the announcement under the pretext of further consultations.
“They applied pressure on Barrister Saif in the name of consultation,” one source disclosed.
In response, Barrister Saif reportedly stood firm, saying, “I will quit my office but won’t be disloyal to the party’s founder.”
According to insiders, Saif also criticized the internal conflicts, telling CM Gandapur and Aleema Khanum, “The PTI founder is fed up with your infighting and public criticism.”
Following Saif’s strong stance and threat to resign, the party did not alter any of the six names approved by its founder. Sources said there were attempts to remove Mishal Yousafzai and another candidate from the list, but the nominations stood unchanged.
The episode highlights ongoing internal divisions within PTI as it prepares for critical Senate elections under increased scrutiny and political pressure.
