Russia has officially recognized the Taliban government in Afghanistan. This news was shared by Zamir Kabulov, who is Russia’s special representative for Afghanistan. He spoke to Ria Novosti, a Russian state news agency, and said that the Russian government has now recognized the Taliban, which calls itself the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
Later, Russia’s Foreign Ministry also confirmed this information to another state news agency, TASS.
This is an important development because no other country had formally recognized the Taliban government until now.
Russia Becomes First Country to Recognize Taliban Government
The foreign minister of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaqi, reacted to the news by calling it a “brave decision.” He said that Russia is the first country to officially recognize their government and that this step might encourage other countries to do the same.
In a video shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Muttaqi is seen speaking with Dmitry Zhirnov, the Russian ambassador to Kabul. In the video, Muttaqi said, “This brave decision will be an example for others… Now that the process of recognition has started, Russia is ahead of everyone.”
