You know how they say, “Looking good isn’t self-importance, it’s self-respect.” Well, keeping up with that saying, we’ll tell you exactly how you can “look good” and stay high on trend this summer. Perusing through national and international couture collections, we’ve curated a list of all the ensembles that you can adorn to keep your cool in the blazing hot summer months.
Bermuda Pants
This is a summer cult classic. No matter how short our shorts get, we always fall back on the Bermuda Pants (read glorified shorts-cum-dress pants). But, have you ever thought of why they’re called Bermuda pants in the first place? They are so-named because of their popularity in Bermuda, a British Overseas Territory, where they are considered appropriate business attire for men when made of suit-like material and worn with knee-length socks, a dress shirt, tie, and blazer. Nowadays, these are worn with a cool T-shirt or a loose button-down and either way, it looks fashionable and unleashes your inner unruffled. And we love that, don’t we?

Florals
“Florals for spring? Groundbreaking!” (You’re the real OG if you remember this dialogue)
But, it’s all true. Florals for summer is such a classic. It has long been used, experimented with and flaunted in a tonne of different ways. Turn your vacation vibe on by wearing an uber-chic floral button-down. Or a printed T-shirt. Imagine yourself as an invitee to a Mexican luau party. Sounds fun, eh? We saw Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello and Kenzo incorporating this “floral” trend in their haute couture and to say that we’re obsessed, would be an understatement!

Effortless, Relaxed Suits
Remember the time when super-fitted suits were the “it” thing? Well, I’m immensely sorry to be bursting your bubble but it’s about time that you toss them away. This year, it’s all about loose, but not ill-fitted silhouettes. The more unstructured it is, the cooler the vibe you’d exude. But make sure that you don’t misconstrue ill-tailored as effortless. Bad tailoring has always been and will always be a major fashion faux pas. Be mindful of the cuts and colours, and I’m sure you’d make heads turn with your super-cool swag in whatever room you enter.

All-White for the Win
Is it even summer if you don’t fling in yourself in an all-white ensemble? Whether it’s milky white pants and crisp white button-down shirts paired together, or a plain white chikankari kurta with Chairman Latha Shalwar, most people out there tend to pull off this trend with an aplomb that is over and ahead. This light, breezy palette screams summer. Plus, it’s a colour that represents purity and innocence. Some of the positive meanings that white can convey include cleanliness, freshness, and simplicity. Now, with epithets as exalted as these attached to the colour, the manliest thing you can do is to step out in an all-white outfit this time around.

Goodbye to Raw Denim. Hello to Mid-Wash Denim.
Yes. You read that right. Not only is dark, raw denim pretty passé, it also lacks personality unlike faded blue, mid-wash denim. It has been washed and dried more times, compared to dark denim. It’s a great all-rounder that suits most people, goes with anything, and is easy to dress up or down.
Vertical Stripes
Such a classic, right? Let’s be real. If you’re a guy, you’d have at least one shirt in your closet with vertical stripes. If not, no problem. The next time when you walk into a store, you know exactly what to add to your cart. Not only do vertical stripes look ultra-stylish, but they also trick the eye into making you look slenderer. If the stripes are on a shirt, it makes your torso look leaner. If on a trouser, it seems like you have long, super-model legs.
Be Wary of the Ankles
Whether you’re ready to accept this or not, but the “over the ankle hem” is so old-fashioned. Yes, it was a coveted trend back in the 2010s, but this time around it would be nice for you to part ways. Naked ankles are no more the “smart statement” like they once were back in the day. Make sure that your trousers, shalwars, pants etc. are well-tailored and cover your ankles jusssst right.
Acidic Bright Colours
Would it be summer if you don’t stick out all your bright coloured shirts and waistcoats? This season is all about striking colours all paired together to look like a walking artist’s colour palette. Neon yellow particularly seemed to rule the runways. Versace, Fendi, Dries Van Noten and many other notable designers launched men’s ensembles with flamboyant colours and conspicuously bright patterns. We’d say, that this trend is definitely not for the faint-hearted ones. But if you want to tippy-toe in the waters, try incorporating a statement piece like cherry-red boots or a neon orange belt. And when you feel like you’re comfortable in the territory, it is your time to shine!

Border-Line Palazzo Pants
Easy-breezy-lemon-squeezy. Yeah, we tweaked the words a little but nevertheless. This summer is all about staying cool, avoiding tight-fitted and structured ANYTHING! But especially trousers. Loose and straight-cut trousers are all the rage this time around. Thanks to Belmain for introducing this trend to us. Not only does it give you a cool, hippie vibe, it also keeps your body temperature low by ensuring ample airflow.
