Atif Aslam Defends Independence Day Concert After Father’s Death

Atif Aslam Responds to Criticism Over Independence Day Concert Following Father’s Passing

Toronto — Pakistani singer Atif Aslam has spoken out against the backlash he faced for performing at an Independence Day concert just a day after the passing of his father, Muhammad Aslam, on August 12. The comments came during a recent interview in Canada.

Addressing critics, the ‘Aadat’ singer made it clear that he doesn’t owe anyone an explanation for his professional choices. “I become a rebel when I see people saying, ‘Oh, this happened to him or he just had a death in his family, and yet he is performing live the very next day.’ At the expense of a personal loss, people are running channels and debating what I should or shouldn’t have done,” he said.

Aslam emphasized that his responsibility is to his art, not to public approval. “My job is not to explain anything to anyone. I can’t build a relationship with everyone and let them tell me what I should do based on what happened in my family,” he added.

He concluded firmly, “My job here is to make art; like me for my art, hate me for my music, but don’t tell me what to do.”
