It’s a saying that necessity is the mother of invention. Some foods were invented through curiosity, clumsiness and error, and create the best formula. This question came to mind how some amazing food came to be. Some foods do not follow any proper method to make but through errors. Here are some foods that came by accident and surprisingly all are amazing.
Aspartame
Aspartame is an artificial sweater, mostly used in sugar-free food and drinks. The story behind its invention is strange and accidental. In 1965 scientist Dr James Schlatter working on an anti-ulcer drug, accidentally licked his finger to pick up a piece of paper, he realized its taste was sweater. That was a science experiment in which accidentally ingesting a chemical resulted in a positive outcome.
Oyster sauce
Oyster sauce was invented in 1888 in Nanshui, china by chef Leem Kum Sheung. He was busy working in his popular food stall. By mistake, he put the pot of oyster soup on the stove and left it to simmer gently. After an hour he realized his mistake and discovered that leaving oyster soup on the stove for an hour had reduced to a thick brow paste with a deeply savoury taste. He began to sell his sauce as a name of oyster sauce and gained a huge hit. He establishes his own sauce company, Lee Kum Kee.
Raisins
Raisins were discovered as long before as 2000 BC, when someone unaware tripped upon grapes that had dried up on the vine. Dry fruits were used for decoration in trading times and on prizes at sports events, but in medieval times, dried fruits were considered the sweetener of choice.
Bakewell pudding
Bakewell pudding was also invented accidentally in the Derbyshire town of Bakewell, England in 1860, by a misunderstanding between the mistress of a local inn Mrs Greaves and her cook. A man visited and requested a strawberry tart, but mistakenly an egg mixture was poured on top of the jam. Strangely, nobleman was happy with the result of the pudding, which is loved by Brits to this day.
Cheese Puffs
Cheese puffs were invented at an animal feed factory, The Flakall Company of Beloit in Wisconsin, in the 1930s. The man named Edward Wilson decided to take some puffed corn pellets to his house which the company produced. He took it to his home and added seasoning to puffed corn pellets and they tasted great.
Granny Smith apples
Tart flavour and crisp texture Granny Smith apples were invented by Maria Ann. Granny Smith apples are one of the most beloved apple varieties worldwide. First, it didn’t exist at all. It was discovered in Australia in the 1860s, when Maria Ann Smith, a local orchardist known as Granny Smith, found a chance seedling growing in her garden in Ryde. She discovered that those seedlings grew into some crab apple cores in her garden. She cultivated and found that they were different from other varieties and apples had a unique taste and a firm texture.
