BRT Peshawar Fares Hiked as NAB Recovers Rs168.5B
According to the notification, the fare per stop will be raised by Rs 10, and a 5-kilometre journey will now cost Rs 30 instead of Rs 20.
Passengers travelling up to 40 kilometres will be charged Rs 7,0, and the price of a single-use ticket will also rise from Rs 60 to Rs 70.
Officials stated that the decision to revise fares was made during a meeting of the Board of Governors.
NAB recovers Rs 168.5bln in BRT Peshawar case
Earlier in 2024, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) announced the recovery of Rs 168.5 billion in the BRT Peshawar project, marking it the largest recovery in the bureau’s 25-year history.
The investigation into the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project began in 2018, amidst allegations of illegal contract awards and misappropriation of funds.
The case saw NAB rejecting contractors’ claims of Rs 31.5 billion in the International Court of Arbitration.
Investigations revealed that six major contracts were wrongly awarded to specific companies, which later breached their terms. Over 400 bank accounts were inspected, revealing further evidence of misconduct.
