India will spend $2.36 billion on nuclear-capable missiles

An official announcement on Friday stated that the Indian Defense Ministry had signed contracts to purchase BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles with nuclear capability for the Indian Navy, at a cost of 195.2 billion rupees ($2.36 billion).

BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited and I have inked a contract for the purchase of BrahMos missiles at a cost of Rs 19,518.65 crore (195.2 billion rupees). The ministry stated in the announcement that these missiles would be used to fulfill the Indian Navy’s training and combat gear requirements.

The Indian Defence Ministry inked five significant capital acquisition contracts on Friday to support the make-in-India campaign. This contract was one of them, the ministry said.

According to the ministry, the five contracts cover the purchase of shipborne Brahmos system for the Indian Defense Forces, high-power radar, close-in weapon system, and aero-engines for MiG-29 aircraft.

The procurement of more than 200 BrahMos extended-range supersonic cruise missiles for use on its warships was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security last month.
