Astronomer CEO Resigns After Viral Coldplay Concert Clip
MASSACHUSETTS — Astronomer CEO Andy Byron has resigned following the circulation of a viral video captured during a Coldplay concert at Gillette Stadium, the company announced in a statement posted on LinkedIn.
The statement noted that company leaders are “expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability,” adding that “recently, that standard was not met.” Byron had been placed on leave on Friday before tendering his resignation, which was accepted by the board of directors. Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy has been appointed as interim CEO.
The controversy arose after Byron and the company’s Chief People Officer, Kristin Cabot, were shown on a stadium jumbotron embracing during the concert. As the camera lingered, Byron quickly ducked out of frame while Cabot covered her face and turned away. Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin quipped, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”
The video quickly went viral, and online users soon identified the pair using social media. While the company confirmed Byron’s resignation, it did not comment on Cabot’s employment status.
A spokesperson clarified that Byron and Cabot were the only Astronomer employees caught on camera, but declined further comment.
