Sudden Flood in Northern India killed 8 people and Left 23 Soiders Missing

Continuous Heavy rain led to a flash flood in northeastern India on Wednesday. Flash Flood swamped various towns, cleaned off bridges, and drowned army camps, taking 8 people’s lives and leaving 23 soldiers missing, the army and new reports told.

The New Delhi Television said, that flooding occurred along the Teesta River in the Lachen Valley of India’s state of Sikkim and was aggravated when part of the dam was flooded.

The Indian army told in a statement that some army camps and vehicles were drowned under the mud and searching for the 23 missing soldiers was underway. Defence authorities told the media that 23 residents were moved out safely.

Media showed, that Teesta River was cleaned off in the flash floods early Wednesday. Authorities said they found 8 civilian bodies.

The state education department said that various other towns, including Dikchu and Rangpo in the Teesta basin, also were washed out, and schools were shut down for four days. PTI said a fraction of a highway that connects Sikkim, the state capital, with the rest of the country was flooded.

PM Narendra Modi said in the meeting that the government would support the state authorities to face the challenges of flooding.

The flash flood happened due to very heavy rain, by a cloudburst. Rainfall is defined as more than 10 centimetres occurring within 10 square kilometres within an hour. Clorbursts caused intense flooding and landslides led to killed thousands of people.

The Mountains of the Himalayan region located in the Sikkim region, have seen heavy monsoon rains in this season.

Almost 50 people died in Himachal Pradesh state due to flash floods and landslides. Recorded data showed rain killed more than 100 people over two weeks in July in the northern India region, as roads were washed out and homes collapsed.
