Police raid the Quetta home of Qasim Suri
According to police sources, Balochistan Police raided the Hanna Urak neighborhood of Quetta on Friday, where Qasim Khan Suri, a former deputy speaker of the National Assembly, lived.
They did, however, also state that Suri was not at his home when the raid occurred. Following the issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants for the former NA deputy speaker by an Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC), law enforcement took action.
Speaking under anonymity, a senior police officer informed The Express Tribune that the raid was carried out because Suri had neglected to show up for the court date. According to him, the PTI leader was wanted in two charges related to his suspected involvement in the events of May 9.
The day before, Suri’s attorney, Ali Hassan Advocate, filed a bail request with the Balochistan High Court (BHC). Nevertheless, the application was denied by the court.
Speaking to the media, Hassan claimed that the police were reluctant to provide complete information on the cases that had been filed against Suri.
Judge Kamran Malakhail of the BHC voiced his displeasure with the petitioner’s defense during the hearing, claiming that they had totally missed the opportunity to utilize the court’s resources. He continued, “This blatantly demonstrated that they had nothing to say in their defense.”
The judge went on to say that the petitioner was the subject of criminal cases, according to declarations made by the Balochistani advocate general and prosecutor general.
In response to Suri’s legal lawsuit against the Pakistani government and Ministry of Interior, Justice Malakhail ordered that his attorney, Muhammad Imran Alvi, be the subject of an investigation.
