Despacito becomes most watched YouTube video ever

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” video makes YouTube history once again! The music video for the smashing hit song has set another new record. It’s become the most popular clip on YouTube once again with more than seven billion views. After Despacito, on the second number, it is Pinkfong’s Baby Shark Dance video and its record 6.8 billion views.

What’s even more interesting is that the number of views that the song has received is almost equal to the global population. The filming of the video for the record-breaking song in the historic neighborhood of La Perla in San Juan.

“Despacito” became an international hit the year it was released, leading the Billboard Hot 100 chart. When the song had reached 3 billion views in 2017, YouTube announced that the song has broken the previous record of “See You Again,” the song by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth for the “Furious 7″ soundtrack. The video hit 3 billion views in less than eight months after its release.

The single was also the most played song on streaming platforms of all time in July 2017. This record was in part due to a Justin Bieber remix of the reggaeton anthem in English and Spanish.

Three years after its release, “Despacito” continued to make waves. Thanks to Joe Biden. Barack Obama’s former VP played the hit on his cellphone during an Orlando event dedicated to Hispanic Heritage Month. When Luis Fonsi invited him on stage, the 77-year-old candidate joked after playing the tune, “If I had the talent of any of these people, I’d be elected president by acclamation.”
