Traffic Courts in Karachi
In another update, the government has decided to start traffic courts in Karachi. These courts will allow people to appeal if they think their traffic fine is unfair.
The police chief said, “The fine should be high enough to stop people from breaking traffic rules again.”
He also said the cabinet has approved new traffic laws, which will begin after the chief minister signs the official summary.
According to the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh, the government will change the Motor Vehicle Ordinance. Under the new rules:
The traffic fine can be increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 250,000
For serious violations that could cause deaths, fines will be 10 times higher
If the fine is not paid within 21 days, the amount will be doubled
If not paid within 90 days, the person’s driving license will be cancelled
If not paid within 180 days, the person’s National Identity Card (NIC) will be blocked
The IG said that traffic courts will be formed after the new law starts. People can go to these courts to appeal their fines, and they will be shown proof of their mistake in court.
