Chinese Firm to Built Electric Vehicles in Pakistan

Federal Minister for Energy; Hammad Azhar said on Thursday that Pakistan was moving towards electrification of mass transit as a consequence of EV policy approved; by the federal government last year in December. Firstly, Taking to Twitter; moreover, the federal minister Hammad Azhar said that BYD; the largest global electric bus manufacturer along with a Pakistani company will manufacture electric vehicles in Pakistan under the new agreement. Secondly, “BYD; the largest global electric bus manufacturer along with Sapphire group have joined hands to develop market development & manufacturing of these vehicles in Pak;” Hammad Azhar wrote in a Tweet.

Electric Vehicle Plant:

Thirdly, The motorcycles and vehicles; would be shifted on electric power; while Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Units would also be established in the country. Moreover, Under the new EV policy; the Sindh Transport Minister Syed Owais Shah back in March 2021 had launched Pakistan’s first electric bus in Karachi. MG JW Automobile (MG Pakistan); is a joint venture between JW-SEZ (Private); Limited and SMI; which is a subsidiary of SAIC Motor Corporation Limited. Furthermore, SAIC is a Chinese; state-owned automotive design; manufacturing company headquartered in Shanghai with multinational operations.

Fourthly, It is the largest auto manufacturer in China; the seventh-largest in the world. Fifthly, In 2006; SAIC purchased the prestigious British brand Morris Garages (MG) and it is now marketing automobiles; under that brand all over the world. Furthermore, The BOI received the zone entry application of MG JW Automobile. Pakistan through its recently launched ‘SEZ MIS Module’; which acts as a one-window for SEZs in Pakistan. Lastly. The module; is designed to facilitate real investors, from all corners of the world; in getting admission into SEZs while ensuring complete transparency.
