Fawad Alam Defends Babar Azam Ahead of High-Stakes India Clash in Asia Cup 2025
During a recent sports show discussion on the 2025 Asia Cup, Fawad Alam highlighted the much-anticipated Pakistan vs India match as one to watch closely. He singled out India’s Abhishek Sharma, the current top-ranked T20 batter in ICC rankings, for his exceptional performances in recent games.
Acknowledging India’s depth, Fawad pointed out that with the top 10 bowlers and batters in the tournament, they remain the biggest challenge for all competing teams.
When asked about concerns over Pakistan’s top order, particularly Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam, Fawad came to Babar’s defense.
“There is no question mark over Babar Azam’s skill. He has consistently delivered outstanding performances,” Fawad said. “The only misfortune, especially in the last two to three years in T20s, is that he hasn’t had players like Shahid Afridi or Abdul Razzaq to finish games. All our legends had match-winners lower down the order.”
Fawad also noted that the playing style of past cricketing greats isn’t drastically different from Babar’s. In fact, he argued that Babar’s consistency and white-ball performances often surpass those of former stars.
“Babar Azam is better than most of our legends. His ODI and T20 records are extraordinary. Right now, there’s no bigger player in Pakistan cricket than Babar Azam,” Fawad concluded.
