Gaza Ceasefire Proposal Sent to Israel

New Ceasefire Proposal Sent to Israel Amid Ongoing Gaza Conflict

Throughout the war, Israel and Hamas have engaged in intermittent indirect talks, resulting in short-lived truces and exchanges of hostages for prisoners. However, a lasting ceasefire has remained elusive.

Mediated by Egypt and Qatar, with U.S. backing, these efforts have involved frequent rounds of shuttle diplomacy aimed at breaking the stalemate.

On Monday, Egypt announced that it and Qatar had forwarded a new proposal to Israel, noting that “the ball is now in its court.”

According to Egyptian state-linked media outlet Al-Qahera, the latest plan calls for a 60-day truce, partial hostage releases, the freeing of some Palestinian prisoners, and measures to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not publicly commented on the proposal. Last week, he reiterated that Israel would only agree to a deal “in which all the hostages are released at once and according to our conditions for ending the war.”

Hamas senior official Mahmoud Mardawi said on social media that the group “opened the door wide to the possibility of reaching an agreement,” adding that the question now is whether Netanyahu would “once again close it, as he has done in the past.”

Hamas’s apparent willingness comes as Netanyahu faces mounting pressure both domestically and internationally to bring the conflict to an end. On Sunday, tens of thousands of Israelis marched in Tel Aviv, calling for an end to the war and the safe release of the remaining hostages.
