Gaza: Dozens Dead as Israeli Strikes Intensify Amid Ceasefire Negotiations

Gaza – At least 52 Palestinians were killed in a new wave of Israeli air strikes and gunfire across the Gaza Strip, just hours after Hamas announced a potential deal to release 10 hostages as part of ongoing indirect ceasefire negotiations with Israel in Qatar.

Israel has recently escalated its military campaign in Gaza, worsening the humanitarian crisis for over two million residents trapped in the war-torn territory.

Civil defence official Mohammad al-Mughair told AFP that 17 people were killed in a single Israeli strike near a medical facility in Deir el-Balah, central Gaza. Among the dead were eight children and two women. Mughair stated that the strike targeted a crowd gathered in front of a medical point.

Another airstrike hit a family home in Al-Bureij camp, also in central Gaza, killing four people and injuring several others. AFP footage from the scene showed children sitting in dust and rubble near their damaged tent following the explosion.

“Suddenly — and without warning — the house with people inside was bombed,” said Olfat Salim, a resident of Al-Bureij. “We were sleeping and saw dust and stones falling on us. We started screaming to wake our children from under the rubble. Thank God we managed to get them out.”

Elsewhere in Gaza, Mughair reported at least 27 more deaths from airstrikes, including 15 people killed in five separate bombings around Gaza City.

In the south, one person was killed near Khan Yunis by Israeli military fire. Meanwhile, three more civilians, including a woman, died after Israeli forces reportedly opened fire near an aid distribution center in northwest Rafah.

The United Nations recently confirmed that over 600 people have been killed near aid convoys and distribution sites in Gaza since late May, when Israel began allowing limited humanitarian supplies into the region.

The deadly escalation comes amid fragile diplomatic efforts in Qatar aimed at brokering a ceasefire, with international mediators urging both sides to de-escalate.
