PTI Chairman Gohar says there’s no chance of a boycott and hopes polls won’t be delayed

PTI says no to a coalition government with the PML-N and PPP

Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), expressed optimism on Tuesday that elections would go place on February 8 and noted that the Supreme Court (SC) has previously ruled against any postponement of the voting process.

The PTI chairman expressed hope to the media that the polls won’t be delayed because of security-related worries raised by a political party following a terrorist assault in Dera Ismail Khan district. He stated that authorities had verified that the terrorists’ goal was a police station rather than a political party convoy.

Barrister Gohar underlined that a free, transparent, and inclusive election was the only solution to all problems and that postponing the polls was not the solution to any problem. He once more ruled out the notion of the party boycotting the polls and declared that they will participate in the elections with fervor and full preparedness.

Gohar restated the PTI’s demand for the SC’s intervention, citing the ECP’s failure to carry out its mandate and the election body’s exclusive duty to conduct free and fair polls. But “the commission miserably failed in performing its constitutional obligations hitherto,” according to the statement.

The PTI head claimed that the election watchdog’s partiality and bias could be assessed by looking at the fact that it disregarded the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) explicit verdict on the party’s “bat” emblem and moved quickly to carry out any orders issued against the PTI. He made the point that, despite conducting the most open and transparent party polls of any registered political party in the nation, the commission was targeting the party and the ECP had no authority to get involved in the intra-party election dispute.

According to him, the unprecedented rejection of nearly 90% of the PTI candidates’ nomination papers indicates how serious the situation is.
