Water Levels Rise at Guddu Barrage, Dozens of Villages Flooded in Sindh

KANDHKOT – The Indus River continues to swell across Sindh, with official data showing a sharp rise in water levels at major barrages.

According to the provincial information department, inflow at Guddu Barrage was recorded at 635,759 cusecs on Monday, while outflow stood at 606,489 cusecs. Officials noted that the inflow has climbed by nearly 23,000 cusecs over the past 24 hours, raising fresh concerns about flooding in the region.

At Sukkur Barrage, inflow has increased to 538,916 cusecs against an outflow of 485,736 cusecs. Meanwhile, Kotri Barrage, further downstream, received 278,786 cusecs, discharging 267,631 cusecs into the Indus.

Water levels at Head Punjnad have shown a decline, with inflows dropping to 307,830 cusecs — down by 61,255 cusecs compared to Sunday. Still, the Chenab’s flooding has already inundated more than 30 villages and driven up the prices of vegetables and milk in local markets.

Authorities said protective dykes along the Indus are now under pressure, with several villages in Kandhkot’s katcha belt completely submerged. Rescue efforts are underway as residents continue to be displaced by the rising waters.
