Guehis Palace Future Unclear

Guehi’s Future at Palace Remains Uncertain Despite Key Role in Conference League Win

Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, who is in the final year of his contract, continues to be a key figure for the Eagles, but his future at Selhurst Park remains uncertain.

Since joining Palace from Chelsea in 2021, the 25-year-old has established himself as a regular starter for both club and country, earning 23 caps for England. Guehi also played a crucial role under Oliver Glasner as the side secured their first major trophy in May, beating Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final.

Guehi featured for the full 90 minutes in Palace’s 1-0 victory over Fredrikstad in the UEFA Conference League play-offs. Jean-Philippe Mateta scored the decisive goal nine minutes into the second half, giving the Eagles a narrow advantage ahead of the second leg.

After the game, Palace chairman Steve Parish suggested that Guehi could stay at the club if a new contract is agreed. “If Marc wants to sign a new contract, he can stay,” Parish told Channel 5. “It’s a difficult situation. Everyone has to sell players to comply with the [financial] rules. It’s a situation we’ll have to look at in the next days.”

Meanwhile, manager Oliver Glasner emphasized his desire to retain Guehi amid a limited squad. With key players like Eberechi Eze absent due to an impending move to Arsenal, Glasner revealed the challenges of managing a thin roster. “Today, we had 17 on-field players available. One from the academy, two players we already told that they should leave the club. So that means we’re with 14 [players] and having six games from the 10th of August until the 31st,” he said.

Guehi’s performances and importance to the squad suggest that keeping him could be vital for Palace as they navigate a busy season ahead.
