Heavy Rains Flood Risk in Punjab KP and Islamabad
Heavy Rains, Thunderstorms Expected Across Northern Regions
Karak/Buner: Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed Karak city and its surrounding areas on Saturday. In Buner, several localities also reported intense thunderstorms, heavy showers, and even hail.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned that a strong westerly weather system is likely to hit the upper catchments of all major rivers, as well as Islamabad, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, from Sunday through Tuesday.
According to the National Emergencies Operations Center, the system may bring moderate rainfall in many areas, with chances of isolated heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and strong winds.
In the upper catchments of the River Jhelum, medium to high water flows are expected due to heavy rain. Similar conditions in the Ravi and Sutlej catchments could swell eastern rivers, raising the risk of medium-level flooding in vulnerable areas.
Meanwhile, the western tributaries of the Swat, Panjkora, and Kabul rivers are also likely to see a significant rise in water levels over the coming days.
