Dakota Johnson exposes the ‘bleak’ reality of the business: “Very discouraging”

Dakota Johnson shared her thoughts on why she believes the entertainment industry is “really fucking bleak”.

The Madame Web actress remarked in an interview with L’Officiel magazine that she and Ro Donnelly want to build deep, nuanced stories with strong female characters at their core through their production venture TeaTime Pictures. When asked if she thought she had to produce shows like that in order to have them made, the actress did not hold back.

She told the publication, “I’m finding that this industry is really fucking bleak.” It is really depressing. We will implode because the individuals in charge of streaming platforms don’t believe that artists or creatives will know what will work. It truly is heartbreaking.

She disclosed that she has struggled to produce creative and “very forward” material for the story they’re trying to portray, as demonstrated by her most recent movie, Daddio. She said that even though Sony Classics bought the film at the Telluride Film Festival, it took a lot of fighting to get it made.

People seem incredibly fearful, and I wonder why. What will happen if you take a courageous action? Everyone seems scared and unsure of what to do, she remarked. That’s how it seems to me. Fear is a common emotion among decision-makers. The safe course of action is dull, so they want to take it.
