HPV Vaccination Extended as Millions Miss Dose
HPV Vaccination Campaign Extended as Millions of Girls Remain Unvaccinated
ISLAMABAD – The ongoing cervical cancer prevention campaign has reached 6.7 million girls in just 11 days, achieving vaccine coverage of 65% in Sindh, 63% in Punjab, 35% in Azad Kashmir, and 34% in Islamabad.
Despite the effort, around four million girls remain unvaccinated due to parents’ refusal, illness, and other reasons.
The campaign, which began on September 15 in Punjab, Sindh, Islamabad, and Azad Kashmir, was originally scheduled to conclude on September 27. However, officials say the government has decided to extend the drive after provinces reported falling short of their vaccination targets, as reported on Sunday.
According to health authorities, Punjab, Sindh, Azad Kashmir, and Islamabad will all extend their HPV vaccination campaigns. Sindh has already announced a three-day extension, moving its deadline to September 30, and is expected to formally notify the federal government of the decision.
In Islamabad, authorities are considering extending the campaign by three to seven days, while Punjab and Azad Kashmir are expected to follow suit with similar extensions.
