Imran dismisses the caretakers’ May 9 investigation and expects a public outrage on election day

Imran Khan tells a top military spokeswoman, "If you don't want to talk, then don't"

Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former prime minister, has voiced his displeasure with the federal government’s caretaker government-led probe into the events of May 9.

In an informal address to media on Wednesday at the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Khan said that the PTI rejects the investigation and predicted that there will be noticeable public unrest on February 8, the day of the next elections.

Khan claimed there has been no impartial investigation into the events of May 9. He charged collusion between the PTI and the caretaker government, the establishment, and the Election Commission. Before apprehending individuals responsible for stealing CCTV footage relating to attacks on GHQ, Jinnah House (the house of the Corps Commander in Lahore), and other facilities, Khan emphasized the need for an impartial investigation.

According to the PTI founder, CCTV footage of the Islamabad High Court, GHQ, and Corps Commander House had been manipulated to make it look to be missing. Khan drew comparisons between the incident on Capitol Hill in the United States and the prompt apprehension of the suspect aided by security camera footage. He claimed to have footage of Yasmeen Rashid, the leader of the PTI, telling workers not to approach

Khan reaffirmed the strength of PTI by saying that 80 per cent of the army backs the party. He said that the PTI could not be defeated in spite of possible election day manipulation and stealing of electoral symbols. Khan predicted that on February 8, the public will become enraged and accused the establishment of unprecedented pre-election manipulation.

In response to a query concerning negotiating, Khan said that the only agreement he had was to guarantee free and fair elections, stressing that the nation will suffer from the establishment’s present strategy. He described the current situation as a freedom battle rather than an election.

Khan asserted that Section 144 was imposed in reaction to his demand for denouncing the purportedly oppressive measures used against the PTI. He anticipated that under Section 144, PTI would be restricted in its ability to host public gatherings and demonstrations.

Khan stated that PTI shouts were still being heard at Nawaz Sharif’s rallies despite the poor turnout. “There is no need for a campaign because Nawaz Sharif himself is sitting at home saying that they are selecting me,” he said.

Speaking to PTI candidates, Khan emphasized preparation and forewarned that any who were arrested would be replaced quickly. He said opponents were obstructing PTI’s campaign by preventing his photo from being displayed and even mentioning “prisoner number 804” on posters.

Khan, who is incarcerated at the moment, requested a postal ballot in order to exercise his right to vote. Eliminating the chance of reaching agreements with influential groups, he emphasized that the only agreement was to guarantee free and fair elections throughout the nation. Regarding the meeting with Sheikh Rashid, Khan made it clear that one did not take place because he is being held in custody.
