India Beats Pakistan in Super Four T20
India Cruises Past Pakistan in Super Four T20 Clash
Dubai – India secured a convincing win over Pakistan in their Super Four T20 clash, chasing down a target of 172 in just 18.5 overs, led by a brilliant 74 from opener Abhishek Sharma. The victory marked India’s second triumph over Pakistan in the tournament within a week and their 12th win in 15 T20 internationals.
The match, however, once again saw tensions linger off the field, as players from both sides refused to shake hands after the game.
When asked whether India’s dominance suggested the famed rivalry was losing its edge, Suryakumar Yadav dismissed the notion. “You should stop asking about the India-Pakistan rivalry. If two teams play 15–20 matches and it’s even, that’s a rivalry. But 13–0, 10–1… I don’t know the exact stats, but this isn’t a rivalry anymore,” he said.
Pakistan’s last T20 win over India came in the 2022 Asia Cup in Dubai. Their campaign in this Super Four clash was bolstered by opener Sahibzada Farhan’s 58 off 45 balls, but the team fell short, finishing at 171-5 after a strong start of 93-1 in just 9.3 overs.
India’s strong batting performance was highlighted by the opening partnership of Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill, who added a rapid 105 runs in 9.5 overs. Suryakumar credited the team’s overall performance, adding, “I think we were better than them, both with the bat and ball. The catch drop percentage at this venue is high, but that’s part of the game.”
Speaking about Sharma, Suryakumar praised his maturity and adaptability: “He knows what’s required, how bowlers are going to bowl. He’s learning with every game.” The 25-year-old left-hander continues to impress with his consistency under pressure.
Pakistan captain Salman Agha reflected on his team’s shortcomings, saying they fell “15–20 runs short” and acknowledged that they had yet to play a perfect game in the tournament. “After being 91 in 10 overs, we lost our way, but 171 was still a challenging total,” he said, noting that their bowlers struggled to contain the Indian openers. “We need to perform in all three departments and look forward to facing Sri Lanka next.”
In other Super Four action, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets in Dubai on Saturday. The top two teams from the Super Four will meet in the final in Dubai on September 28.
