Making fun of SLB's work, Ahmad Ali Butt refers to it as "Kheeramandi"

Actor and comedian Ahmad Ali Butt, who is bone-tired of the endless praise that Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has received since its May 1 Netflix release, turned to his Instagram stories to share his devastating assessment of the show.

Butt, expressing his harsh opinions through art, made some unsubtle alterations to the show’s poster. He wrote “Kheeramandi” instead of “Kheeramandi” and added the phrase “A Wonderful Visual Disaster.” Butt also helpfully included a specific brown emoji in the upper left corner to make his opinions quite apparent, just in case anyone was still unsure.

Heeramandi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, gained attention well in advance of its May 1 release date. In the weeks leading up to the film’s premiere, picture after photo of the sets and costumes surfaced online, igniting speculation on social media that, true to Bhansali’s vision, Heeramandi would be an epic that would go down in history as one of the greatest shows on television. In interviews, Bhansali himself revealed how the show had been in the works for decades and provided insight into the time and work that had gone into building the ornate sets.

Since its debut three days ago, Heeramandi has received an incredible amount of favorable feedback from followers on social media, living up to the hype. The vast majority of social media users praised the elaborate costumes, praised the performance as “pitch perfect,” praised the music as “superb,” and described the entire production as “pure magic.” A minority, on the other hand, disagreed with Bhansali’s portrayal of grandeur and thought he had gone too far. A more restrained but equally disappointed spectator commented, “Just wish the director had not overindulged and got carried away by his reputation for grandeur,” without being quite as critical as Butt’s poster.
