India on alert after email threatens to blow up PM

The Indian prime minister and the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad, which is now the site of multiple ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup matches, were threatened with bombings in an email that the Mumbai police received on Thursday night.

The email warned the authorities that if the Indian government does not pay 5 billion Indian rupees and release infamous mobster Lawrence Bishnoi who is currently detained in Delhi’s Mandoli jail, the group that sent the email has already organized people to carry out the assaults, according to the Hindustan Times.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), who reportedly received the threat letter from Europe, subsequently alerted the Mumbai police, according to the police.

“All relevant agencies in other countries have also been contacted, according to the email we received from the NIA. Primarily, it appears that the message has originated from Europe, but we have obtained the email ID from which the NIA obtained the email, and we are attempting to trace it as well, a police official added.

The policeman stated that they have started a manhunt for the sender and will if required, review and tighten security at all cricket tournaments.

Additionally, he claimed that the message appeared to be a nasty joke or hoax carried out from afar.

The police officer noted that while they have initiated a manhunt for the sender and will review and, if necessary, step up security at all cricket events, the message appears to be a prank or malicious play by someone sitting in a foreign nation.
