Intermediate Smart Syllabus Instructions Issued For 2020
Higher Education Department of the Government of Punjab decides to shorten the Intermediate syllabus due to the corona lockdown. As intermediate classes started with a delay of over 3 months, HED has set up a committee to prepares recommendations to shorten FA, FSc, and Intermediate Syllabus that shall be called an intermediate smart syllabus.
A smart syllabus for matric is already announced. HED has issued instructions to the Textbook board to start working on syllabus reduction. This is pertinent to mention here that the intermediate syllabus is very long. Students have to prepare more than 12 chapters for Chemistry and Mathematics in Part-I and similarly, the syllabus of English and biology is also very lengthy; this is why an intermediate smart syllabus shall play a vital role.

For this purpose, a committee headed by MD Textbook Board has been set up in which the formula for shortening the syllabus will be determined and the committee will submit its recommendations to the Punjab government.
Why reduced Syllabus?
Earlier due to the COVID-19, Punjab Government is going to introduce Smart Syllabus Preparation. They conducted a meeting in which he decided to remove unnecessary topics from Class I to Class X. Only essential topics shall be included in the books. As the period is short and only six months are left from September to February for the annual examination of 2021. So, the government decided to reduce irrelevant topics from the textbook. For this purpose, they introduced the Smart Syllabus Scheme. A critical review of Smart Slabs was conducted under the chairmanship of Dr. Zulfiqar Saqib. Fifteen senior teachers from District Lahore have participated in the committee to review the syllabus.
Smart Syllabus Preparation is specially created for Class nursery to class intermediate. The academic time is already short due to pandemic COVID-19. Therefore the government initiated this preparation scheme. Hence the syllabus is shortened.
The ALP prepared by the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB); offers selected chapters from textbooks for students from Class 1 to Class Intermediate as the academic year has to be shortened this time because of the prolonged closure of educational institutions in the wake of the Corona pandemic.
