Elections to choose members of the Lok Sabha, India’s lower house of Parliament, will begin on April 19, the government said on Saturday.

Officials from the Election Commission of India revealed the timetable during a news conference in the nation’s capital, New Delhi. The lengthy general elections will take place in seven phases, with results to be published on June 4, three days after voting closes.

According to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, counting is also anticipated to be finished by June 4. 2,100 observers will be there to watch the voting process.

The election officials report that 543 Lok Sabha seats will be contested and that 968 million people are currently registered to vote, including 18 million first-time voters.

They disclosed the dates of the state assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Odisha in addition to the general election calendar.
