Nikki Haley declares her withdrawal from the Republican presidential contest

Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley declared her withdrawal from the Republican presidential contest on Wednesday, making former President Donald Trump the front-runner.

CNN reports that she made the revelation during remarks made in Charleston, South Carolina, following a string of defeats in the GOP nomination contests on Super Tuesday.

CNN went on to say that it is not expected that she will support Trump. Instead, she is pleading with the former president to win over the folks who supported her.

Trump trounced other contenders in a GOP primary, with Haley—a former US ambassador to the UN—coming in last. This included his 14 triumphs on Tuesday as well.

Haley, nevertheless, promised to continue competing until at least Super Tuesday.

Additionally, she has begun to intensify her criticism of Trump, casting doubt on his mental state and painting him and potential Democratic nominee Joe Biden as two “grumpy old men”.

In 2024, she suffered her fourth consecutive defeat in her native state of South Carolina. This also applied to “none of these candidates” in the Nevada primary, as there were no delegates up for grabs and Trump wasn’t running.
