"Statewide, vaping is a major issue in secondary schools"

Syed Zulfiqar Hussain, a consultant for the Anti-Drugs, Narcotics Campaign, has voiced worries about the harmful effects that electronic nicotine delivery devices, such vape pens and e-cigarettes, have on children’s health.

In addition to highlighting the critical role that parents play in supporting their children, he brought attention to the fact that smoking-related illnesses claim the lives of almost 7 million people annually.

Hussain clarified that the composition of this dangerous e-cigarette, which was poisonous to people and may result in health problems, included a number of dangerous substances, including nicotine. “Vaping is a serious problem that affects secondary schools all over the country.”

He emphasized that kids needed to take responsibility for their own safety as well as helping to prevent drug use from destroying their community. He said that the younger generation is not listening to anti-smoking and anti-drug programs and that parents and teachers should work together to prevent young people from becoming drug victims.

According to the expert, kids who are addicted to nicotine may have trouble focusing in class, having trouble falling asleep, anxiety, restlessness, impatience, irritation, rage, and intense cravings for nicotine when they are exposed to the drug again. He insisted, “In the context of Pakistan, academics and policymakers must gather data and should conduct research to show a causal relationship between youth e-cigarette experimentation and later tobacco addiction.”

Teachers and parents need to be made more aware of the need for a widespread campaign against e-cigarettes, similar to the one against vape pens and sheesha. To increase awareness, we have chosen to include the civil society,” he continued.

In response to a query, he stated that substances in vaping fluid might also lead to short-term lung damage as well as long-term lung and cardiovascular problems. He stated that in order to raise awareness of the negative consequences of smoking, more aggressive anti-tobacco programs centered on tobacco cigarettes and the growing trend of e-cigarettes among young should be started.
