Jamal Musiala picks Germany over England at international level
Musiala, who turns 18 on Friday, scored his first Champions League goal for Bayern Munich on Tuesday as the holders beat Lazio 4-1 in Rome to take control of the last-16 tie.
Musiala was born in Germany but moved to England when he was 7 and came through Chelsea‘s academy. He played for both Germany and England at the under-16 level and most recently played two under-21 games for England in November.
“In the end; I just listened to the feeling that over a long period of time kept telling me that it was the right decision to play for Germany, the land I was born in. Still, it wasn’t an easy decision for me.
“I have a heart for Germany and a heart for England. Both hearts will keep on beating.
“It is difficult to find words for what England means for me because I have so many memories connected to very positive emotions.”
He has already met with Germany head coach Joachim Low and the team’s director Oliver Bierhoff.
“I had a very good and honest discussion with Joachim Low. We met in Munich and he showed me clearly my way to the national team,” Musiala said.
“I was impressed by how well informed they both were. Mr. Low analyzed very well my style and my weaknesses. He sees me in the future in my strongest position, that in the attacking midfield.”
Musiala has played 26 times for Bayern across all competitions and became the German team’s youngest Champions League goalscorer on Tuesday when he netted Bayern’s second goal in a 4-1 win over Lazio.
