Karachi Collapse Probe Begins
Karachi Building Collapse: Inquiry Committee Formed
A special committee has been made to investigate the recent building collapse in Karachi’s Lyari area. According to an official notice, this committee will be led by the Commissioner of Karachi.
What the Committee Will Do:
Find Who Is Responsible: The committee will find out who was responsible for the building collapse.
Suggest Safety Measures: It will give advice on how to stop such accidents in the future.
Evacuate Unsafe Buildings: The committee will make a plan to move people out of dangerous buildings in Karachi.
Check Building Rules: It will check if the collapsed building was approved properly and whether any construction rules were broken.
Review Other Risky Buildings: The committee will also report on illegal or unsafe buildings in the Lyari area, especially those in danger of falling.
The committee will also look into an older building collapse in Lyari’s Baghdadi area to see if any lessons were learned from that accident.
Timeline:
The committee has only 48 hours to complete its investigation and submit its report with suggestions.
Action Taken:
Before this, the Sindh government suspended the Director General (DG) of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) after the recent collapse.
At a press conference, Sindh ministers, including Sharjeel Inam Memon, Saeed Ghani, and Ziaul Hasan Lanjar, said that:
The Chief Minister has suspended the SBCA chief.
An FIR (First Information Report) has been ordered against those responsible.
Strict action will be taken.
Saeed Ghani strongly criticized the SBCA for failing to stop illegal construction in Karachi. He admitted that the authority did not do its job properly, which led to this tragic incident.
