Karachi Braces for Heavy Rainfall as 37 Killed in Weather-Related Incidents Across Pakistan
KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds in Karachi today. The city’s weather is expected to remain overcast, with high humidity levels making conditions increasingly muggy.
As of this morning, the humidity level in Karachi has surged to 72%, while southwesterly winds are blowing at 11 km/h. The maximum temperature is predicted to reach up to 35°C.
Meanwhile, widespread torrential rains have wreaked havoc across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), claiming at least 37 lives in multiple tragic incidents. According to authorities, 30 people died in Punjab, while 7 fatalities were reported from KP, as intense downpours triggered roof collapses, electrocutions, and other accidents.
In Lahore, heavy rainfall since Tuesday night has flooded several parts of the city, with major roads submerged under rainwater. At least 10 people lost their lives in separate incidents of electrocution and collapsing rooftops during the storm that began at 9:10 PM.
In Harbanspura, two teenagers, 15-year-old Awais and 13-year-old Esha, died due to electrocution. In another devastating incident in Muridwal (Thokar Niaz Beg), five family members perished and two others were injured when their roof collapsed.

Authorities are urging residents in affected areas to take precautionary measures, as more rain is expected in the coming days.
