PTI Resolves Senate Ticket Dispute, Agrees on Unopposed Elections in KP

PESHAWAR – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has resolved its internal rift over Senate ticket distribution in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with all dissenting candidates withdrawing their nomination papers, paving the way for unopposed elections.

According to party insiders, the Senate election results will follow a pre-agreed formula, under which PTI will secure six seats while the opposition will collectively obtain five. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) will each receive two seats, and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will get one.

PTI’s core and political committees held a crucial meeting to finalize the party’s nominees. The approved candidates are:

General Seats: Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed, Mirza Khan Afridi, Noor-ul-Haq Qadri

Women’s Seat: Rubina Naz

Technocrat Seat: Azam Swati

Vacant Seat (previously held by Sania Nishtar): Mishal Yousafzai

Sheikh Waqas Akram confirmed that, under the direction of party founder Imran Khan, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa parliamentary party was instructed to reach a consensus on whether to contest or run unopposed. After deliberation, the parliamentary party unanimously opted for unopposed elections to ensure transparency. As a result, PTI’s political committee directed all remaining candidates to withdraw their nomination papers.

This move comes after escalating tensions within PTI over the allocation of Senate tickets. Dissatisfied office-bearers had publicly protested, demanding that Irfan Saleem be nominated from Peshawar. They threatened demonstrations outside key government locations, including the Provincial Assembly and the Chief Minister’s House, if their demands were not met.

With the dispute now settled and nominations finalized, the PTI aims to present a united front ahead of the Senate elections in the province.
