Karachi Faces Heavy Rainfall; K-Electric Warns of Electrical Hazards
KARACHI – As heavy monsoon showers continue to batter Karachi, K-Electric has issued warnings over the unsafe use of electrical equipment during rainy conditions. A spokesperson for the power utility emphasized that operating devices like water pumps in standing water can be extremely dangerous.
Residents have been urged to keep a safe distance from TV and internet cables, broken wires, and other exposed electrical installations. The spokesperson also cautioned that illegal electricity connections and “kundas” pose a serious risk of fatal accidents.
To ensure public safety, K-Electric may temporarily suspend power supply in low-lying areas where water accumulation is reported. Field teams remain on high alert, monitoring conditions closely and ready to respond to emergencies.
The rainfall brought much-needed relief to Karachi’s humid weather, starting as light showers in many areas Monday night before turning heavy by Tuesday morning. Torrential rain is currently affecting areas including Tariq Road, Azizabad, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Boat Basin, Liaquatabad, Hassan Square, North Nazimabad, SITE Area, Clifton, Defence, Qayyumabad, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Airport, Quaidabad, Malir, Landhi, and Korangi.
Other parts of the city, such as Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Federal B Area, Scheme 33, Safora Chowrangi, Malir Cantt, North Karachi, Manghopir, Surjani Town, and Taiser Town, have also experienced heavy rainfall.
