Tragic Tanker Crash in Karachi Claims Mother and Son, Raises Alarming Traffic Death Toll
Karachi – A devastating accident near Landhi Hospital Chowrangi claimed the lives of a mother and her son on Monday when a water tanker collided with their motorcycle. The deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Raisa and her 20-year-old son, Arman. Another child, 24-year-old Hasnain, was injured in the crash and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Police reported that the tanker driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, leaving authorities to investigate.
In a separate incident, a traffic mishap on the Baldia Northern Bypass left one person dead and another injured. The deceased, identified as Shahbaz, and the injured, Daud, were both rushed to the Civil Hospital Trauma Center.
These incidents add to a grim statistic: at least 546 people have lost their lives in traffic accidents across Karachi during the first seven months of this year. Rescue authorities also reported that 8,136 people suffered injuries in various traffic mishaps during the same period.
Heavy vehicles have been a major contributor, accounting for 165 of the total deaths. Among these, trailers were responsible for the highest fatalities at 62, followed by water tankers with 37, dumpers with 32, and buses with 20. The overall fatalities include 425 men, 51 women, 51 boys, and 19 girls.
Authorities are urging stricter enforcement of traffic rules and improved road safety measures to prevent further loss of life on the city’s roads.
