Katas Raj Temple at Risk Federal Minister Orders Urgent Action

ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, has taken serious notice of disturbing reports highlighting the deteriorating condition of the historic Katas Raj Temple in Punjab.

The centuries-old Hindu temple complex, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is reportedly suffering from water seepage and flooding that have weakened its ancient structures, sparking national concern about the site’s preservation.

In response, Minister Khichi has instructed the Evacuee Trust Property Board and other relevant authorities to submit a detailed report on the temple’s condition. “The Katas Raj Temple is a shared heritage of our nation,” he said, affirming the government’s full commitment to its restoration and long-term protection.

The minister emphasized that safeguarding the cultural landmark is a priority: “We are committed to ensuring this cultural gem is preserved for future generations.”

Authorities have since begun mobilizing to assess the damage and initiate emergency repairs to prevent further degradation of the temple’s architecture.

The Katas Raj Temple complex, located in the Salt Range of Punjab, is one of Pakistan’s most revered historical and religious sites. The temple’s sacred pond, believed in Hindu mythology to have been formed from the tears of Lord Shiva, adds to its spiritual significance. It remains a major pilgrimage destination for Hindus and a symbol of Pakistan’s diverse cultural heritage.
