Liverpool Push for Isak as Newcastle Struggle to Hold Star Forward

Renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed developments in one of this summer’s most talked-about transfers.
Alexander Isak, 25, is reportedly eager to leave Newcastle United, fearing the club cannot meet his ambitions for winning trophies. The Swedish forward has accused Newcastle of “broken promises” and “misleading fans,” as he looks to secure a move elsewhere.
Liverpool had previously offered Isak a six-year contract reportedly worth £110 million plus add-ons, but Newcastle swiftly rejected the proposal.
The setback has not deterred Liverpool, however. With their recent match against Newcastle concluded, the Reds are ready to reignite their pursuit of the striker. Romano told DAZN that talks with Newcastle could resume either Wednesday morning or later in the evening.
“They’ve been trying for months—starting with calls, then sending new contract proposals, and now arranging face-to-face meetings with the player,” Romano said. “Newcastle is doing everything it can to change his mind, hoping to keep Isak for one more season and possibly let him leave in 2026. But from the player’s side, the stance remains the same.”
Even during high-level meetings with Newcastle’s board, Isak and his agents reportedly reiterated their desire to join Liverpool.
Earlier on Tuesday, Romano confirmed that Isak is still determined to make the move. “As of Tuesday lunchtime, Isak is still pushing to go to Liverpool. He hasn’t changed his mind and is still hoping the transfer happens,” he added.
