McConaughey as King of the Kens in Barbie 2?
Matthew McConaughey Open to Playing “King of the Kens” in Potential ‘Barbie’ Sequel
Fans of Barbie may have reason to get excited. Actor America Ferrera, who earned her first Academy Award nomination for her role as Gloria in Greta Gerwig’s live-action Barbie, recently suggested that Matthew McConaughey would be the perfect fit for the title of “King of the Kens” in a possible sequel.
While a Barbie 2 hasn’t been officially announced yet, McConaughey has already expressed enthusiasm for the role. During a recent TV appearance, he reacted to mockups of himself in the character Ferrera had envisioned, saying, “It’s already coming to life.” He added with a grin, “It’d be hard to say no to that, wouldn’t it?”
Upon hearing of McConaughey’s interest, Barbie star and producer Margot Robbie couldn’t contain her excitement. “Did he say he’d do it or?” she asked. “Wonderful. Thank you for doing that.” However, Robbie stopped short of confirming if a sequel is officially in the works.
The original Barbie ensemble also included Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, and Dua Lipa, among others. Co-written and directed by Greta Gerwig, the live-action adaptation hit theaters in July 2023, leaving fans eager for what’s next.
