Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza Arrested Under Public Order Law in Jhelum
JHELUM – Police on Monday arrested Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza and shifted him to jail under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO), officials confirmed.
According to police, the arrest was made on the orders of the Deputy Commissioner of Jhelum. Authorities also sealed Mirza’s academy following the action.
The move came after several religious groups lodged formal complaints against Mirza. Delegations of clerics reportedly met with district officials earlier in the day, demanding legal measures against him.
Mirza, widely known for his online lectures on social and religious issues, has built a large following through his candid and often controversial discussions. His YouTube channel currently has more than 3.1 million subscribers.
This is not the first time the scholar has faced legal trouble. In May 2020, Jhelum police arrested him under Section 153-A, a law relating to hate speech and incitement, after an old lecture resurfaced online. He was released two days later on court orders.
In March 2021, Mirza survived a knife attack at his academy when an assailant attempted to stab him. He sustained minor injuries, while the attacker was taken into custody.
